"Paper Screen” also presents a portrait of social life in the early 1960s to the early 1970s. We know that since August 17, 1945, a new nation was born in the world, precisely by groups of people living in parts of the archipelago who agreed to declare themselves as one nation, namely the Indonesian Nation which has its own government institution, namely the Government of the Republic of Indonesia. In the 1960s, people’s life situation of the 15-years old Indonesia had not changed much. For example, regarding our society’s habit that when Eid al-Fitr approaches, parents take their children to the (traditional) market to buy new clothes. In those days, clothing tailors even refused orders to sew new clothes if the clothing material had only been delivered a week before the Festive Day (Hari Raya) arrived.
